Apr. 10, 2008 Drum Corps International World Championships

Drum Corps International (DCI), formed in 1972, is the non-profit governing body operating the North American drum and bugle corps circuit for junior corps, whose members are between the ages of 13 and 22 (see photo - Blue Devils performing Winged Victory 2007).

Many other drum corps associations around the world are based upon DCI. It continues a tradition of exceptionally high-quality drum corps, with membership in the top corps highly sought after and extremely competitive, attracting the interest of potential members from many countries.

At the end of the summer season, DCI World Class corps compete to earn the title of DCI World Class Champion. The championships consist of 3 rounds—Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. All active World Class corps (approximately 25 corps) compete in the Quarterfinals, with the top 17 advancing to the Semifinals. The top 12 corps from Semifinals then advance to the Finals. The champion is determined by the overall high score in the Finals competition.

2008 DCI World Championships will be held at the 52,000-seat Memorial Stadium, on the campus of Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, Indiana.

2008 Championship Week events will take place from Aug. 5 - 9 in three different Indiana locations.

Beginning in 2005, Drum Corps International formed the Classic Countdown, a selection of DCI shows from previous years as chosen by fans through an online voting system. The selected shows are screened annually in select theaters across the United States.

In 2008, "The Countdown" will occur on Thursday, April 24, 7:30 pm. It will feature six full-length corps performances from among the 36 DCI World Championship finalists of 2005, 2006 and 2007. The fans shall put down the scores to select the “2008 Countdown Champion" with a special online score sheet on DCI.org following the theater presentation.
